Ian Kiernan
Born 1960 in Henderson, Auckland, Ian is the eldest of 4 children and has 2 brothers and 1 sister. His early childhood was spent in Kelston West Auckland, but the family moved around the city in subsequent years eventually settling in Mt Albert.
Ian attended St Leonards Rd Primary in Kelston, Maungawhau Primary in Mt Eden, Auckland Normal in Epsom and Mt Albert Grammar School from 1973 to 1977. In 1975 the Family relocated to Norfolk Island, however Ian remained in Auckland to finish his schooling. He boarded with an Uncle & Aunt returning to Norfolk Island for school holidays. Upon completing high school Ian returned to Norfolk Island and commenced work in the local Foodland Supermarket.
 
In 1979 Ian was offered the opportunity to work in the Supermarket Industry back in Auckland whilst also undergoing industry management training with Foodstuffs. Working first in a 4 Square Store in Freemans Bay, Ian progressed to Milford New World Supermarket where he worked for 5 years – 3 years as Manager. In 1984 Ian was awarded a Foodstuffs Management Scholarship. It was during this time in Auckland that Ian met and married his Wife Jasmine in 1980. Ian and Jasmine moved to Norfolk Island permanently in 1985 where they have resided ever since. Currently Ian is a Director & General Manager of Norfolk Island Supermarkets Pty Ltd and partially involved in family businesses Celtic Shipping Services and Kiernan Agencies.
 
Ian’s involvement with Rotary commenced during his teenage years when he attended Rotary meetings with his Father and had active involvement in Rotary projects when back on Norfolk Island for holidays.
In particular he recalls the Rotary Beach Carnivals held each summer on Boxing Day at Emily Bay. When Jasmine and Ian returned to live permanently on Norfolk Island, Ian was invited to Join Rotary as a full member at the age of 26. Ian has held every Rotary Club position in the club including President 5 times.
 
Aside from Rotary Ian has been involved in voluntary roles with many Community organisations and sporting bodies on Norfolk Island, including 12 years as a Board Member and Treasurer of the Norfolk Island Golf Club. Ian’s early sporting interests included Rugby League & Squash, and he has represented Norfolk Island in both. Today he is an avid Golfer with very low ability and a correspondingly high handicap.
 
Jasmine Kiernan
Jasmine Kiernan (nee Ross) was born and raised in Mt Roskill, Auckland. She attended Mt Roskill Grammar School and upon completion of her schooling worked predominantly in office and administration roles. She has had a varied employment history over the years but currently manages Celtic Shipping Services and the office operations of the family partnership Kiernan Agencies. Aside from her involvement in Rotary, Jasmine has been active in many community organisations on Norfolk including Blue Light Foundation and the St Johns Volunteer Ambulance Service.
 
Ian and Jasmine have three children, a Daughter Hailey recently relocated to New Zealand from Taiwan, a Son Jay currently residing in Sydney Australia, and youngest daughter Jaimee who recently completed high school and is currently still living at home on Norfolk Island.
